2023 was (is) a year for the books. One we will never forget. If you are a fan of college football or Pro football, you know Football and Koozies go hand in hand. Every fan needs a Koozie that supports their favorite team. So how did this year go for Football.
NCAA football was dramatically impacted in 2020. 139 games were either postponed or canceled due to Covid-19. Athletic Directors struggled with scheduling. Some games games were scheduled and put together with less than 3 days notice. Coaches and staffs have suffered budget cuts and furloughs. A small percentage of fans were allowed to attend games and this has impacted local businesses greatly. Businesses that rely on Football are doing just a small portion of the business they normally would do on a football weekend. Many businesses rely on those 6 to 7 home games a year to survive. Restaurants, bars, hotels, transportation services, gas stations, parking lots and many more has seen a large drop in revenue.
Businesses that sell team paraphernalia have been devastated. Koozies, t-shirts, hoodies, magnets, bumper stickers, hats are all sitting on the shelves. The trickle down effect is devastating. The companies that produce and print these items have lost a significant part of their business.
The final teams eligible for the National Championship have been determined. Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Notre Dame all have a chance at winning a National Championship. Fans will be watching empty stadiums at home. Hopefully they will have Football Koozies to ease the pain.
Pro Football is suffering the same consequences. According to Yahoo Sports, Team revenue is generated by ticket sales, merchandise – including Koozies, concessions, local sponsorships and other game related revenue streams. The NFL has 256 games in the regular season schedule and teams are working hard to at least hold the games. TV revenue is still there, but the NFL anticipates losing 16 Billion in 2020 due to covid. Again, the trickle down effect is disastrous, as the local economies depend on Football games to support their businesses. Businesses anticipate crowds coming to their business to drop by 80%.
We at Kustom Koozies have seen a great drop in our revenue as we are based on crowds. Weddings, Birthday Parties, Anniversaries, Reunions, Graduations, Restaurants, Schools, Teams all combine to create a large part of our business. As one customer mentioned to us. “Your business relies on crowds.” Yes, for the most part, our business relies on crowds getting together. Koozies are a great party favor for these crowds, as Koozies can commemorate the event with personalized names and dates.
